E-triloquist News: New Version Released May 16, 2010
New Features and Fixes in Version 6.2
New option on the context menu (see New Features in Version 6.1 below) to Add a saved phrase to the Main Speaking Window instead of speaking it. Useful if you need to customize a phrase
before speaking.
Fixes to the Window-size handling to correct issues with the screen not being visible, especially in Windows-7 (E-triloquist starts minimized and can't be opened).
Enabled Category (Folder) rename in the List Views.
Improved error handling and diagnostic capabilities.
New Features and Fixes in Version 6.1
New context-sensitive right-click menu for frequently used commands. The context menu can also be accessed from the Windows "Menu" key, typically located at the lower-right of the
keyboard between the Alt and Ctrl keys (to the right of the right-hand Windows "Start" key if there is one).
New "Add Phrase" feature to quickly save the contents of the Main Speaking Window to an existing Category
in your Categories and Phrases display.
New Toolbar buttons for quick access to "Add Phrase" and "Edit Categories and Phrases" functions
Enabled the Help button on the Toolbar
Fixed problems with the Expand and Collapse Categories functions for the Tree-Views
Added more error handling to provide more information when there is a problem, especially at start-up.
New Features in Version 6.0
Greater control over the Categories & Phrases display in the top half of the window, including tree, icons, and a couple of combinations. You can also get rid of the top half (new text-only view) to save space if you are writing a tome.
The speaking window now uses tabs to manage the interrupt windows, and the whole interrupt process has been improved. You can use CTRL plus up-arrow or down-arrow to page through the tabs, or use the Toolbar or View Menu drop-down to select a tab.
The icons along the top can be re-sized, moved around (like standard Vista style toolbars), or hidden.
More control over fonts and the display layout
More control over the HotKey display
Multi-lingual support: The menus can be displayed in English or German. Also, the default phrase libraries and now available in German (you still need to purchase a German voice to pronounce them properly).
Window with keyboard shortcuts for the main window
The Category & Phrase update process has been re-designed to be more streamlined and simpler (hopefully).
The Hot Key update process has also been improved to make it easier to see what you are updating.
There is a new Import option to import a text or rtf file into the speaking window.
Support for more audio types including mp3 and wma in addition to the wav and midi files already supported.
Built-in macros (text abbreviation expansion). If you press the macro key (defaults to \ but the user can change it), a list of macros is displayed. Once you type enough keys to uniquely identify the macro (or press enter), the expanded text is automatically inserted into the speaking window.
Better compatibility support for Vista and Windows 7.
Smaller download size (1.97mb without voices)
Known Problems in Version 6.1
SAPI 4 is not supported, so some older voices such as the MS-Agent voices, L & H voices (didn't work well anyhow) and Monologue voices will not work. You can continue to use the E-triloquist Version 5.7 if you still need these voices.
The free Microsoft Mike and Mary voices do not work on Vista or Windows 7. This is a Microsoft limitation and nothing that I have any control over. Vista and Windows 7 come with the free Anna
voice pre-installed, but there is no free Male voice that I know of (please let me know if you find one!)
Version 5.7 of E-triloquist can be clearly seen and heard in a very cool interview with E-triloquist user Cathy Wolf on CNN. Although the video is primarily about some very cool new
brain-computer interface technology, Cathy uses E-triloquist to communicate for much of the video. Check it out to the right, or Watch the video at CNN
