NEW! Version 5.7

New Features and Fixes in V5.7

  • Fixed audio device problem in Windows Vista

Known Problems in V5.7

  • The Icon layout is not always perfect.
  • The program may crash in Icon View when using an empty speak file (no Categories or Phrases).
  • The Interrupt menu gets odd if you interrupt a blank screen, or when you do a lot of interrupting.
  • The SAPI 5 voices do not have a pronunciation dialog control box
  • Pasted text is not handled correctly in "Speak only new text" mode.
  • Expanded HotKey descriptions are not displayed for Ctrl and Shift HotKeys.
  • Drag & Drop in the tree view does not work correctly on Windows-98
  • System Info display may not work correctly after installing E-triloquist on Windows-98 (contact us for a fix)

New Features and Fixes in V5.6

  • Fixed: Problems with speaking as you type (a word at a time) where the last word was repeated if you type a period, blank line, or certain other combinations.
  • Fixed: The output device was not set correctly if you have multiple audio devices (i.e. built-in sound card plus USB speakers) when using a SAPI 5 voice (was OK with SAPI 4).
  • Fixed: Improved error checking

New Features and Fixes in V5.5

  • New: Support for SAPI 5 voices in addition to the existing SAPI 4 support. This greatly expands the number of speech engines available for use with E-triloquist. The E-triloquist download now includes the SAPI 5 Microsoft Mary, Mike, and Sam voices by default. All exisitng SAPI 4 voices will continue to work. Refer to our new Voices page for links to available voices.
  • New: The SAPI 5 voices allow Pitch control (SAPI 4 voices still do not). We have found that lowering the pitch often makes the voice more understandable to those not accustomed to listening to a computer voice.
  • New: Option to speak from the list of phrases (tree-view or icon-view) with a single-click. Go to View, Options, Screen to select the new option.
  • Fixed: Discovers new audio devices without restarting. For example, if you start E-triloquist and then connect a set of USB speakers, you can go to View, Options, Audio and select the new speakers immediately. Previously you had to close and re-open E-triloquist for it to find them.
  • Fixed: The British Pound symbol £ no longer causes the program to crash (however, 1£ is still pronounced "1 pounds", but you can't have everything)

New Features and Fixes in V5.4

  • Greatly expanded Sample Phrase Library. Special thanks to Steve Parker and the ALS Association of Georgia for compiling the new phrase library and sharing the library with E-triloquist users everywhere. The new library has lots of useful day-to-day phrases to get you started right away. The phrases have short summary descriptions, so they work well with the new Icon View which was added in V5.3.
  • Fixed: Font and Icon Sizes are restored correctly in the Saved Phrases Tree
  • Fixed: Ctrl-R for Repeat also right-justifies the main window. Ctrl-L left justifies
  • Fixed: Windows-98 Install problems

New Features and Fixes in V5.3

  • Fixed: Audio phrases repeat indefinitely in Windows-XP
  • Fixed: Screens not displayed correctly in Windows-XP (i.e. cut-off at bottom)
  • Fixed: If tab out of rename in the tree, cursor is displayed in the Main Speaking Window.
  • Fixed: Voice may not be selectable if L&H (Microsoft Agent) voices are present, including most Windows-ME systems.
  • Fixed: E-triloquist does not close completely, depending on how it is shut down.
  • Fixed: Lots of other little annoyances
  • Added: Built-in Voice Recorder for creating your own audio files (available when Add New Audio Phrase)
  • Added: "Icon View" display option for the Categories & Phrases window. This view may be a better option for you when using scanning software.

  • New status bar with larger re-size handle in lower right corner
  • New option: Expand all categories at startup
  • Options to change the Font (View, Set Font...) in the Categories & Phrases Window as well as the Main Speaking Window. [V5.4.1]
  • More keyboard equivalents (and fixed some that didn't work). For example: CTRL-M and CTRL-T to jump to the Main Speaking Window or to the Categories & Phrases Window.
  • Option to select the output device for speech if you have multiple audio devices, such as a laptop with built-in audio plus a set of external USB speakers. [V5.4.1]
  • The manual and keyboard-list can be displayed as a .PDF file so you can adjust the type-size for easier viewing, and for additional printing options. You can Get Adobe Reader" for free if you don't already have it.
